Carves three categories out of PIP reimbursement: optometry services outside the 1992 definition of the practice, chiropractic services rendered before July 2, 2021 that were outside the 2009 definition, and physical therapy unless it was provided by a licensed physical therapist (or a supervised physical therapist assistant) on a prescription from a licensed prescriber.
How this section works in practice
Section 3107b lists services that fall outside PIP reimbursement even though they might otherwise qualify as allowable expenses. Optometry is covered only to the extent it was within the practice of optometry as defined in 1992. Chiropractic services rendered before July 2, 2021 were covered only if they were within the 2009 definition of chiropractic practice; for services after that date the restriction no longer applies, so chiropractic care is judged like any other treatment under sections 3107 and 3157. Physical therapy is reimbursable only when a licensed physical therapist (or a physical therapist assistant under a therapist's supervision) provides it on a prescription from a licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, physician's assistant or similar prescriber.
The physical therapy rule is the one that bites in practice. Therapy provided by an unlicensed trainer, or provided without a written prescription on file, can be denied in full, and the patient rather than the clinic often ends up holding the bill. Ask any therapy provider to confirm both the license and the prescription before treatment starts.

Sec. 3107b.
Reimbursement or coverage for expenses within personal protection insurance coverage under section 3107 is not required for any of the following:
(a) A practice of optometry service, unless that service was included in the definition of practice of optometry under section 17401 of the public health code, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.17401, as of May 20, 1992.
(b) A practice of chiropractic service rendered before July 2, 2021, unless that service was included in the definition of practice of chiropractic under section 16401 of the public health code, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.16401, as of January 1, 2009.
(c) A practice of physical therapy service or practice as a physical therapist assistant service, unless that service was provided by a licensed physical therapist or physical therapist assistant under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist under a prescription from a health care professional who holds a license issued under part 166, 170, 175, or 180 of the public health code, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.16601 to 333.16659, 333.17001 to 333.17097, 333.17501 to 333.17556, and 333.18001 to 333.18058, or the equivalent license issued by another state.
