Distribution of loss, reimbursement, and indemnification among property protection insurers.
In plain terms
The reimbursement and indemnification rules that apply among PIP insurers under sections 3115(2) and 3116 also apply among property protection insurers.
How this section works in practice
Where two or more insurers are in the same order of priority for property protection benefits, or where one insurer pays and another should have shared the loss, this section imports the rules that already apply to PIP insurers: the distribution and reimbursement provisions of sections 3115(2) and 3116. In practice the insurer that pays a property owner may seek contribution from the other involved vehicles' insurers, and any reimbursement out of a tort recovery is limited the same way it is limited for PIP. Property owners rarely need to think about this section; it governs how insurers settle up among themselves after the claim is paid.
