The transition rule from 1972. The no-fault act applies to motor vehicle accidents occurring on or after October 1, 1973; accidents before that date remained under the old tort system. More than fifty years later the section has no practical application, but it is a useful reminder that no-fault reforms attach by accident date: the 2019 changes to benefits, fee schedules and the tort threshold likewise apply according to when the accident happened and when the policy was issued, which is why two people injured in the same crash can have different rights.

This act applies to motor vehicle accidents occurring on or after October 1, 1973.
