Accidents; duties of driver.

After a crash with a person or an occupied vehicle, the driver must give his name, address and registration number (with the owner's name and address), show his license, and render reasonable assistance to anyone injured, including getting medical aid or arranging transportation.
How this section works in practice
Section 619 is the checklist that sections 617 and 617a enforce, and it is also the checklist an injured person should use at the scene. The other driver owes you his name and address, the plate number, the name and address of the vehicle's owner if it is not his, and a look at his license; take a photograph of the license and the insurance certificate rather than copying them by hand. The duty to render reasonable assistance is why a driver who leaves an injured person without calling for help faces the harsher treatment in section 617 even if he later returns. The owner information matters because the owner is a defendant under section 401, and the insurance certificate matters because section 328 makes it prima facie proof of coverage and lists any excluded driver. If the other driver refuses, call the police from the scene; section 622 requires a report anyway when anyone is injured, and the officer will collect the same information.

Sec. 619.
The driver of a vehicle who knows or who has reason to believe that he or she has been involved in an accident with an individual or with another vehicle that is operated or attended by another individual shall do all of the following:
(a) Give his or her name and address, and the registration number of the vehicle he or she is operating, including the name and address of the owner, to a police officer, the individual struck, or the driver or occupants of the vehicle with which he or she has collided.
(b) Exhibit his or her operator's or chauffeur's license to a police officer, individual struck, or the driver or occupants of the vehicle with which he or she has collided.
(c) Render to any individual injured in the accident reasonable assistance in securing medical aid or arrange for or provide transportation to any injured individual.
